In researching my piece on Cascading Style Sheets I found that the flexibility they enables may be the key for their resounding popularity. CSS gives designers and end-users the power to do what they want, simply and quickly. Before CSS a tedious amount of coding was required by the designer to ensure a desired outcome. This over engineered code left complicated legacy files and compromised end users ability to alter as they need.
