About

This is a course in the University of Washington MCDM program taught by Kathy E. Gill. Previous iterations of the course can be found on the UW course server.

This course examines the framework of social media applications. It introduces terminology, history and evolution of web site development and content management systems; introduces elements of effective web site design; introduces project management techniques needed to organize digital assets, allocate resources, and meet deadlines. Students will gain a solid understanding of legacy and emerging technologies, which are essential skills when managing cross-functional teams, while developing a simple, branded web site. There is no group project. This course is the foundation for the spring 2012 course, “Managing Your Web Presence: Advanced Content Creation, Curation, and Optimization.”

Spring Quarter 2010 had its own website — webtoolsuw.wordpress.com — which has been integrated into this one.
