Mapping and tracking your shopping moves…

Yes, in a story published by EETimes.com it was announced that  Nokia will be linking to Bluetooth 4.0 to create indoor navigation maps. The project aims to start by getting retailers, malls and other busy public places on board. The idea is to equip this spaces with antennas that will track Wi-Fi devices and “tagged” carts which will turn out to be useful to also record consumer behavior analytics.

Even though it sounds like an expensive deal, the Bluetooth arrays can be integrated using the building’s Wi-Fi net, bringing costs down. So we may hear a lot about this new project in the near future.

My only concern is, how privacy issues will be addressed? If I don’t want to be tracked, should I leave my phone at home or turning it off will suffice?

Think about it!
